Inter Milan has announced that Nicolò Barella is out for the next two to three weeks with an ankle injury.
The midfielder was replaced in the 81st minute of Inter's Serie A match against Roma on Sunday, and he did not return to the pitch after halftime.
Barella joined Inter from Juventus last summer, and he has made 15 appearances for the club so far this season.
He is one of several key players who have been affected by injuries recently, including Mauro Icardi, Romelu Lukaku, and Lautaro Martinez.
Icardi has missed the past two matches due to a hamstring injury, while Lukaku suffered a knee ligament injury earlier this month and will be out for up to six months.
Martinez also missed Inter's match against Roma with a knee problem.
Inter's upcoming match against Sassuolo on Wednesday will be Barella's first chance to return to action since his injury.
Despite the setback, Inter coach Antonio Conte remains confident that his team can continue their strong start to the season, which includes victories over Napoli and Sampdoria.
"We have a lot of good players who can fill the void left by Nicolò," Conte said.
"Everyone is working hard, and we're going to try to keep our momentum."
Inter currently sits second in the Serie A table, just behind Napoli, with 24 points from 16 games.
They face Sassuolo at home on Wednesday, before traveling to Bologna on Saturday.
